Albany State women’s hoops blasted by Georgia Southern 97-49 in exhibition matchup

The Golden Rams women’s basketball team was defeated (97-49) by the Georgia Southern Eagles in an exhibition game on Monday evening at the Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, Georgia. 

The Golden Rams started strong against the Eagles and trailed (22-14) at the end of the 1st quarter.  The Golden Rams continued to fight but found themselves trailing (46-31) at the half.

But, the Golden Rams were outscored (51-18) in the 2nd half. 

Ultimately, the Eagles size bothered the Golden Rams all night, especially on the interior.  The Eagles outscored the Golden Rams 56 to 6 in points in the paint.

The Golden Rams shot 29.1% from the field, 27.8% from the 3 point line and 77.8% from the free throw line in the game.

Several players had a standout game for the Golden Rams.  Milana Holmes led the Golden Rams with 13 points and 6 rebounds.  Elisa Saffold finished with 12 points.

The Eagles shot 48.8% from the field, 22.2% from the 3 point line and 75% from the free throw line in the game.

Terren Ward finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds.  Simone James added 14 points and 6 rebounds.  Eden Johnson finished with 12 points and 4 rebounds for the Eagles.
